Is Cowardice The Worst Sin?

Many have asked whether God ranks sins. It would be fair to surmise that the different types of sacrificial offerings required for different types of sins in the Old Testament would indicate that He does. Perhaps one of the most shocking verses in the New Testament is Revelation 21:8. John is describing who gets tossed into the Lake of Fire. Amazingly, he lists the cowards and unbelievers ahead of abominable, murderers, and immoral persons!

“But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.””

Revelation 21:8 

Does that means he is ranking them ahead of the others? Perhaps, but more importantly, it should cause us to examine ourselves to ask where we stand in regards to Courage and Faith. 

Fear is the opposite of Faith – and fear is at epidemic proportions. 

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 

It seems like you can count on 2 fingers the number of Hollywood stars and politicians who have been able to remain off Epstein’s list. Yet, it is doubtful that many of them entered their profession thinking they would end up there. So, how did it happen? Fear of man over fear of God. They feared more the loss of their power, position, or fame than how God would feel about them. They thought they had to “go along to get along” and in so doing sold their soul. 

Satan used perhaps his greatest weapon – fear. More specifically – fear of man. 

There is a reason the word fear appears almost 300 times in the Bible. And there is a reason Courage appears almost 100 times.
